Department of Military Affairs

St. Clair County is home to 270,056 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Most importantly for this grant: St. Clair County is home to Scott Air Force. Scott Air Force Base pumps about $2 billion a year into the region's economy. With more than 13,000 employees, Scott is one of the top five employers in the St. Louis region. The office of Military Affairs has been vacant for several years and recently hired a full-time person as the Director of Military Affairs, St Clair County.  The mission of the Department is to act as a liaison between the military organizations located at Scott Air Force Base, and elsewhere within the county, and the government departments and agencies of St. Clair County. The Department serves the County Board Chairman in an advisory capacity, on legislative issues, public policy and public support agreements, advocating for, and advancing issues of mutual concern. The primary focus is assisting our military and veteran population in obtaining county services, while promoting, maintaining, and fostering a harmonious relationship within the military and civilian communities of St. Clair County. Working together for the benefit of all!

Our Mission

Fox 2 News Story on Space Command HQ

US Space Command was activated in August 2019 as the 11th Combatant Command. Scott AFB already hosts US Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), DISA are also located on Scott AFB and the infrastructure exists to allow for successful GLOBAL operations. These command centers control globally distributed operations that supply and project a force, anywhere-anytime, at a time place of our nation's choosing, right here from the heartland of America. Adding the US Space Force HQ to already-existing infrastructure would not only be beneficial to St Clair Country but also to our Nation. Chairman Mark Kern believes ST CLAIR COUNTY ILLINOIS is a great candidate for US Space Command and has offered the 500 acres located near Scott Airforce Base as an option. #USSPACECOMMAND
